SM Prime Holdings invests over ₱6 billion to redevelop Harrison Plaza into landmark lifestyle destination

SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SM Prime), one of Southeast Asia’s leading integrated property developers, announced plans to invest more than ₱6 billion in the redevelopment of the former Harrison Plaza Complex in Manila. The flagship project, to be known as SM Harrison Plaza, is scheduled to open in 2027.

The redevelopment is part of SM Prime’s broader ₱150-billion mall investment program spanning 2026 to 2030. The initiative includes the large-scale redevelopment of 16 existing malls and the construction of 12 to 15 new lifestyle centers across the Philippines.

Originally opened in 1976, Harrison Plaza holds historical significance as the country’s first one-stop shopping mall. Its transformation marks a major step in revitalizing a key site in Manila’s urban core.

Once completed, SM Harrison Plaza will feature an estimated gross floor area exceeding 200,000 square meters, placing it on par with flagship developments such as SM City Davao and SM City Clark.

“The development will incorporate nature-inspired architectural elements alongside open layouts, community spaces, and green areas designed to support cultural and social activities,” said Steven T. Tan, President of SM Supermalls.

Strategically located in Manila’s cultural and entertainment district, SM Harrison Plaza is expected to strengthen SM Prime’s footprint in the capital. The development will serve as a mixed-use retail and lifestyle hub, catering to office workers, residents, and students in the nearby Malate and Ermita districts.

The site’s proximity to key attractions—including Manila Zoo, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, and Manila Bay—positions it as a compelling destination for both local and international tourists.

The mall’s tenant mix will combine global brands with local retailers, reflecting the vibrant character of the surrounding community. Beyond retail, the project is expected to generate thousands of jobs during construction and long-term operations, while contributing to the broader urban renewal of Manila’s city center.
