The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has achieved a record-breaking start to the year, posting total collections of PHP 239.054 billion for the first quarter of 2026. According to preliminary data, this figure surpasses the agency’s internal target by 1.3% and reflects a 3.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
This milestone represents the highest-ever first-quarter collection in the Bureau’s history. The performance is surpassed only by the historic peak recorded between July and September 2025, signaling a sustained upward trajectory in the country’s fiscal management.
Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go lauded the Bureau’s performance, attributing the success to a rigorous focus on governance and modernization.
“The Bureau of Customs’ record-setting first-quarter collection demonstrates that our commitment to reforms, transparency, and accountability is delivering real results,” said Secretary Go. “These gains will directly support the government’s priority programs and benefit the Filipino people.”
The BOC identified several key factors that contributed to the surplus:
-
Intensified Anti-Smuggling Campaigns: A primary driver was the aggressive crackdown on illegal trade. Revenue was significantly bolstered by the public auction of forfeited goods, including seized high-end vehicles, effectively turning illicit assets into public funds.
-
Enhanced Post-Clearance Audits: Strengthened audit operations ensured higher compliance with customs laws, guaranteeing that duties and taxes were accurately declared and paid.
-
Operational Efficiency: The collective efforts of ports and subports nationwide ensured streamlined processes and lawful collection across all entry points.
The Bureau’s achievements align with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the fiscal guidance provided by the Department of Finance (DOF) to maximize revenue generation without compromising integrity.
“Every peso we collect helps fund essential services, advance national development, and build a better future for every Filipino,” Secretary Go added.
As the BOC continues its modernization journey, it remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of public service, ensuring that the country’s borders remain secure while contributing to a robust and resilient economy.
