The Philippines has assured Turkey that it will look into the anti-dumping issue on wheat flour imposed on certain Turkish exports and the accreditation of Turkish poultry products for export to the Philippines.
Trade and Industry Undersecretary Ceferino S. Rodolfo met with Turkish’s Trade Ministry officials led Deputy Minister Mustafa Tuzcu; Hüsnü Dilemre, Director General; and department heads Bilgehan R. Caner and Doğan Bozdoğan on April 28 in Istanbul. Other Philippine officials include Ambassador-designate Jaime Ramon Ascalon, Embassy of the Philippines in Ankara; Consul General Christina Gracia Rola-McKernan, Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul; and Commercial Counsellor Katrina Banzon, Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Paris.
Rodolfo, who is also the managing head of the Board of Investments, assured the Turkish officials to look into the anti-dumping issue on wheat flour imposed on certain Turkish exporters. The anti-dumping issue on wheat flour is expiring in 2027.
The Philippine delegation also committed to look into the accreditation of Turkish poultry products for export to the Philippines, where Türkiye is on the list of priority countries for inspection.
Both parties emphasized the need to expand cooperation between the two countries, citing that the trade figures are moderate at USD365 million (FY 2025, with the balance of trade in favor of the Philippines), where potential and opportunities are far greater than what is currently enjoyed.
Areas of trade, defense (11th largest in the world), construction (with over €550 billion worth of projects in the world), agriculture, and culture were highlighted by the Turkish side, citing that Turkish companies are already present in the Philippines, such as Aselsan, Turkey’s largest defense electronics company, and GÜLERMAK, a notable transportation and infrastructure company in Türkiye.
