Domestic shipping operators across Northern Luzon have officially pledged their support for the Maritime Industry Authority’s (MARINA) newly introduced Maritime Energy Demand Information Analysis Software (MEDIAnS).
The endorsement follows a successful regional users’ training workshop designed to streamline environmental reporting and advance sustainable shipping in the country.
The hands-on workshop was organized by MARINA’s Marine Environment Protection Development Service (MEPDS), in close coordination with MARINA Regional Offices I and II. The initiative brought together maritime stakeholders to master the MEDIAnS platform, focusing on critical functionalities including vessel registration, voyage reporting, fuel consumption data input, energy analytics, and emissions monitoring.
Developed as a cornerstone of the Philippines’ maritime decarbonization strategy, the MEDIAnS platform is specifically engineered to collect and analyze energy-consumption data from domestic, Philippine-registered vessels.
By establishing a robust data foundation, the system directly supports national initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and protecting the marine environment.
Beyond technical training, the regional workshop served as a collaborative forum. Participating shipping companies shared crucial operational insights and practical recommendations, allowing MARINA to fine-tune the software to better align with the daily realities and unique reporting needs of the domestic fleet.
With strong backing from Northern Luzon operators, MARINA is steadily expanding its digital network to monitor and mitigate the maritime sector’s carbon footprint, marking a pivotal step forward for the Philippines’ green transition.
