The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) joined the opening sitting of the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), signaling a reinforced commitment from the Philippines to advance workers’ rights and champion “decent work” through international cooperation.
As the highest decision-making body of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the ILC brings together government, employer, and worker delegates from member states to address the most pressing global labor issues and establish international labor standards.
The Philippine government delegation is led by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Secretary Maria Consuelo Bacay, alongside Congressman Ramon “Jolo” Revilla III.
Heading the DMW’s participation as the advance team for Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac is Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul Jr., who serves as a key adviser to the national delegation. The DMW contingent also includes:
-
Director Jerome P. Yanson (DMW)
-
Labor Attaché Jesus Vicente Magsaysay II (Migrant Workers Office-Geneva)
Representing the interests of the private sector is Mr. Arturo Guerrero of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).
The Philippines’ active involvement in this year’s session highlights the nation’s proactive stance on:
-
Protecting Workers’ Rights: Ensuring safety and fairness for Filipinos both at home and abroad.
-
Migration Governance: Strengthening the frameworks that oversee the movement of migrant workers to ensure ethical and transparent processes.
-
Global Cooperation: Aligning Philippine labor policies with international benchmarks to promote “decent work” for all sectors.
The participation of the DMW at the 114th ILC underscores the department’s mission to be a global leader in protecting the welfare of migrant workers while contributing to the development of equitable labor standards worldwide.
