OTS convenes inter-agency security committee to amplify bomb threat preparedness and airport safety

To strengthen the country’s defense against bomb threats and evolving security incidents, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) convened a vital Security Coordinating Committee meeting on Monday, June 29, 2026.

The high-level session brought together airport management, law enforcement, national intelligence, and emergency response partners to solidify the nation’s aviation safeguards.

The meeting directly aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to fortify the Philippine transportation security ecosystem. Discussions focused heavily on breaking down operational silos by strengthening real-time communication, rapid information-sharing, and inter-agency coordination. These measures are designed to ensure faster threat assessments, seamless security responses, and the swift release of accurate public advisories to safeguard passengers and maintain uninterrupted airport operations nationwide.

OTS Administrator Undersecretary Gilberto DC Cruz led the discussions, emphasizing that immediate reporting and tight coordination among partner agencies form the bedrock of public safety.

“Security threats require swift action, and swift action begins with timely communication and accurate reporting,” Usec. Cruz stated. “Every piece of information shared among our partner agencies helps us assess situations faster, coordinate the appropriate response, and protect the traveling public more effectively. Through unity, vigilance, and strong collaboration, we strengthen our collective capability to address any threat.”

The strategic meeting was attended by key stakeholders across the aviation and security sectors, including:

  • Office for Transportation Security (OTS) officials and frontline Security Screening Officers.

  • Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP), including specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Canine (K9) Units.

  • New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation management.

  • National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) representatives.

Throughout the session, participants addressed pressing operational concerns, exchanged tactical recommendations, and mapped out explicit improvements for existing threat assessment procedures and emergency protocols. By updating these information-sharing mechanisms, the OTS and its partner agencies ensure a synchronized, hyper-vigilant network dedicated to protecting the traveling public from acts of unlawful interference.
