Billionaire Enrique K. Razon Jr.’s International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has secured a 25-year extension of its concession to manage and operate the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), the country’s premier international container gateway at the Port of Manila.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, ICTSI said the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) approved the extension of its concession as the exclusive operator of MICT for another 25 years. The company was originally awarded the concession in May 1988.
MICT is the flagship terminal of ICTSI’s global port portfolio and is the Philippines’ largest and most technologically advanced international container terminal. It is recognized for operating at efficiency levels comparable to leading container terminals worldwide.
Since taking over MICT in 1988, ICTSI has increased the terminal’s annual capacity fivefold, expanded its container handling fleet into the country’s largest and most modern, and transformed operations by replacing a manual control system with an integrated, real-time information technology-based terminal management system.
Located in the heart of Metro Manila, MICT is one of the three major terminals at the Port of Manila, the country’s primary port complex. Positioned between the North and South Harbors, the terminal extends into Manila Bay at the mouth of the Pasig River, a key waterway serving the capital.
Beyond MICT, the ICTSI Group operates 32 port terminals and related facilities across 19 countries. Its Philippine portfolio includes 10 terminal operations, comprising an inland container terminal, a barge terminal, and combined terminal operations in Subic. Internationally, the group operates four terminals in Brazil, two in Papua New Guinea, and one terminal each in China, Indonesia, Ecuador, Poland, Georgia, Madagascar, Croatia, Honduras, Mexico, Iraq, Argentina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Australia, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
