Danish food and agriculture delegation strengthens ties with PH to drive food security and innovation

The recent visit of the Danish Food & Agriculture Delegation to the Philippines underscored a shared commitment to a pivotal vision: investing in innovation is, ultimately, an investment in the livelihoods of people and the resilience of global food systems.

The delegation’s series of high-level engagements served to solidify the partnership between Denmark and the Philippines, focusing on sustainable agricultural development and technology transfer. The visit highlighted the importance of public-private synergy in addressing the challenges facing modern food production.

Key highlights of the delegation’s visit included:

  • Strategic Roundtable with the Department of Agriculture: A productive meeting with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) reaffirmed the strong bilateral trade relationship between Denmark and the Philippines, particularly in swine genetics and live imports. Discussions also opened new pathways for collaboration regarding technology transfer, advanced cold chain infrastructure, and the enhancement of animal health protocols.

  • Networking Forum for Foreign Investment: The delegation participated in a forum spotlighting the incentives offered by the Philippine Board of Investments. Featuring insights from the National Federation of Hog Farmers, the session emphasized the urgent need for continued cooperation in biosecurity, the modernization of farming facilities, and targeted support for small-scale livestock raisers to ensure a more robust domestic industry.

  • High-Level Networking Reception: Hosted by Ambassador Franz-Michael Mellbin and Mme. Eva Fischer Mellbin, the evening brought together industry leaders and key stakeholders in the local food and agriculture sector. The event served as a platform for sharing success stories and exploring collaborative strategies to improve the Philippines’ agricultural productivity.

Drawing inspiration from Denmark’s successful model of public-private collaboration, the Embassy’s efforts in introducing Danish agricultural leaders to key Philippine government and industry players have set the stage for deeper, long-term cooperation.

“By fostering these connections, we are working toward a more food-secure Philippines,” said a representative from the Danish Embassy. “Innovation in agriculture is not just about technology; it is about building sustainable systems that empower farmers and ensure that the nation’s food security needs are met with efficiency and resilience.”

The meetings mark a significant step forward in the ongoing bilateral efforts to harmonize Danish technological expertise with the local needs of the Philippine agricultural sector, promising a future of enhanced production and sustainable growth.
