The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has issued Advisory No. 2026-08 directing shipping companies to strictly implement precautionary security measures in accordance with guidance from relevant international maritime authorities.
MARINA issued the advisory on February 28, 2026 as it closely monitors the navigational status and positional data of Philippine-registered vessels operating in international waters, amid recent escalation of hostilities in parts of Middle East.
As part of its ongoing oversight, MARINA has conducted an assessment of the Philippine-Registered Overseas Fleet (PROF), with particular attention to vessels operating within or transiting through areas of geopolitical concern.
The advisory mandates all Philippine-registered ships on international voyages to adopt heightened security, monitoring, and reporting measures amid the escalating conflict.
Shipowners, operators, managers, and manning agencies have been urged to strictly observe these precautionary measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers and the security of vessels operating in or transiting affected areas.
MARINA also advised Philippine-registered ships to avoid transiting the affected areas and to remain vigilant as tensions continue to unfold.
MARINA is closely monitoring the situation and urges shipping companies to remain vigilant and exercise caution. Philippine-registered ships are advised to avoid transiting the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the status of affected Filipino seafarers is being closely monitored by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
MARINA said it remains vigilant and ready to take further necessary measures to safeguard Philippine-registered vessels and Filipino seafarers as the situation develops.
“MARINA remains vigilant and ready to take further necessary measures to safeguard Philippine-registered vessels and Filipino seafarers,” MARINA said in a statement.
