AirAsia Philippines appoints Anna Victoria Lu as new president and general manager

AirAsia Philippines is proud to announce the appointment of Anna Victoria Lu as its new President and General Manager.

A seasoned leader with a proven track record in infrastructure and public services, Lu joins the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline” to spearhead a new era of operational excellence and network expansion.

With over 15 years of experience across the water, power, transport, and ICT sectors, Lu brings a wealth of knowledge in navigating complex, highly regulated environments. Before joining AirAsia, she served as the head of the water business at Aboitiz Infrastructure, where she successfully managed one of the country’s largest private public-private partnerships (PPP), providing essential services to over one million residents.

“Our pursuit of enabling more Filipinos to fly is rooted in AirAsia’s DNA of democratizing and disrupting air travel,” said Anna Victoria Lu, President and General Manager of AirAsia Philippines. “Drawing from my experience in both the private and public sectors, I am deeply committed to expanding our reach and exploring new horizons as we move forward.”

Lu succeeds Capt. Suresh Bangah, who has been promoted to Group Chief Operations Officer of AirAsia Aviation Group. Capt. Bangah was instrumental in steering the airline through its post-pandemic recovery and strengthening operational discipline.

As AirAsia Philippines enters this new phase, the airline is shifting its focus toward sustainable growth and rebuilding brand confidence. Despite global economic pressures—including fluctuating fuel costs driven by international crises—the airline remains committed to its long-term strategy:

  • Operational Stability: Maintaining the disciplined foundations established over the previous year to navigate industry uncertainty.

  • Hub Development: Expanding the Cebu hub to provide more accessible travel options and regional connectivity.

  • Network Growth: Strengthening the current portfolio of 26 destinations (14 domestic and 12 international) by identifying high-demand markets.

The appointment comes at a time of significant momentum. AirAsia Philippines reported a 14% year-on-year increase in passengers during the first quarter of 2026. To meet this rising demand, the airline recently launched new routes to Ha Noi and Da Nang, leveraging AirAsia’s massive network of over 150 destinations across the region.

“The immediate priority is continuing the operational stability the team has worked so hard to achieve,” Lu added. “By navigating uncertainty with discipline, we aim to rebuild brand confidence, reassuring our guests that they can rely on us and trust the experience we provide.”
