DOE champions renewable energy as the backbone of resilient infrastructure

The Department of Energy (DOE) reaffirmed its commitment to integrating sustainable energy solutions into the heart of national development at the recent “Build to Last: Infrastructure and Construction Conference.”

Director Marissa Cerezo, representing the DOE, delivered a keynote highlighting that renewable energy (RE) is no longer an alternative, but a vital component in modernizing Philippine infrastructure. As the nation scales its construction efforts, the DOE is ensuring that “building for the future” means building with clean, reliable power.

Director Cerezo pointed to the success of the Green Energy Auction (GEA) and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) as primary catalysts for change. These initiatives have successfully:

  • Stimulated Market Demand: Creating a consistent and predictable requirement for clean energy across various sectors.

  • Attracted Global Capital: Establishing the Philippines as a competitive destination for renewable energy investors.

A key highlight of the address was the DOE’s proactive approach to administrative efficiency. By streamlining inter-agency coordination and significantly reducing permit delays through the issuance of Certificates of Energy Projects of National Significance (CEPNS), the Department is accelerating the timeline for critical green projects.

“We are ensuring that sustainable solutions are not just an afterthought, but a fundamental requirement for building resilient infrastructure,” Director Cerezo stated.

The DOE underscored a shifting paradigm in the real estate and construction industries. Beyond mere financial incentives, a robust commitment to sustainability has become a decisive factor in investor and tenant retention.

Modern businesses and multinational corporations are increasingly prioritizing developments that offer clear, long-term green energy pathways.

By aligning infrastructure with renewable goals, the Philippines is meeting the global demand for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) compliance, ensuring that local developments remain economically viable and environmentally responsible for decades to come.
