Local wheat millers and bakers, in coordination with U.S. diplomatic and agricultural officials, marked a significant milestone in the enduring U.S.-Philippine agricultural partnership during a high-level signing ceremony and product unveiling.
The event showcased a new range of premium baked goods and flour products that utilize high-quality U.S. wheat. These products will now carry the American Wheat Quality Seal, a prestigious mark of excellence that serves as a visual guarantee to consumers of the superior quality, consistency, and nutritional value of the ingredients used.
The ceremony was attended by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Robert Ewing, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Under Secretary Michelle Bekkering, and representatives from the U.S. Wheat Associates (USW). Together with Philippine industry leaders, they underscored a mutual commitment to integrating U.S. wheat into local operations to meet the growing demands of the Philippine market.
“This partnership is more than just a trade agreement; it is a testament to our shared history and our future-focused commitment to food security,” said Chargé d’Affaires Robert Ewing. “By adopting the American Wheat Quality Seal, Philippine millers and bakers are signaling to their customers that they prioritize the highest global standards of excellence.”
The Philippines remains one of the largest and most consistent destinations for U.S. wheat globally. The unveiling of these products highlights the technical collaboration between U.S. producers and Philippine processors, ensuring that the specific functional requirements for local staples—from pandesal to artisanal noodles—are met with precision.
USDA Deputy Under Secretary Michelle Bekkering noted that the collaboration strengthens the economic fabric of both nations. “Our agricultural ties are a cornerstone of the U.S.-Philippine relationship. Today’s milestone reflects our joint efforts to foster prosperity, stabilize supply chains, and ensure that high-quality, affordable food reaches every Filipino table.”
Local partners expressed their enthusiasm for the continued technical support provided by U.S. Wheat Associates, which includes specialized training and quality testing. The signing of the partnership agreement reaffirms the intention of the Philippine baking and milling industries to prioritize U.S. wheat as their primary source of raw materials.
The event concluded with a tasting showcase featuring products bearing the American Wheat Quality Seal, demonstrating the tangible results of this international cooperation.
