The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border protection and intellectual property enforcement through a recent collaborative dialogue with Nike Southeast Asia. The engagement aligns with Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno’s directive to enhance customs enforcement and combat illicit trade more effectively.
The meeting focused on addressing emerging trends in counterfeit trade, particularly the increasing use of e-commerce platforms and the transfer of illicit goods from ports to inland warehouses. The BOC highlighted its sustained enforcement initiatives against counterfeit products and welcomed Nike’s commitment to provide actionable intelligence to support ongoing operations.
Both parties expressed their intention to deepen cooperation through enhanced information sharing, technical assistance, and capacity-building programs. These efforts aim to further strengthen enforcement capabilities and contribute to a more secure and equitable trade environment, in line with the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The dialogue was attended by key officials from the BOC’s intelligence, legal, and Intellectual Property Rights Division, alongside representatives from Nike Southeast Asia’s brand protection and legal teams.
