Two of the seven Filipino crew members injured aboard the vessel MV CMA CGM San Antonio have safely returned home to the Philippines, marking a critical first step in their recovery and rehabilitation.
The seafarers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 yesterday afternoon, May 15, via Emirates flight EK 332. They were met with an emotional and warm reception as they reunited with their families.
Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), led by Assistant Secretary Jerome T. Pampolina and Director Augusto B. San Diego III, alongside airport personnel from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), were on the ground to personally welcome the returning mariners.
Upon arrival, the seafarers received initial financial assistance packages from both the DMW and OWWA to ease their transition back home.
The successful repatriation was the result of swift, multi-agency coordination. The shipowner and the licensed manning agency worked hand-in-hand with the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Oman to ensure the crew members’ stable transit and safe arrival.
“The DMW, alongside our partners, is fully committed to ensuring our seafarers receive the highest level of care. These two returned crew members will continue to receive comprehensive medical and psychological assistance until they achieve a full recovery,” said Assistant Secretary Jerome T. Pampolina, Department of Migrant Workers.
The DMW extended its wishes for a swift and complete recovery for the two returned mariners. Furthermore, the agency emphasized that it is actively monitoring the status of the remaining five injured crew members currently overseas, and is working diligently to ensure their health, well-being, and eventual safe return to the Philippines.
