DOT rallies industry leaders, launches official bid to host the Slow Food International Expo

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has announced a major twin-engine strategy to propel the nation’s tourism sector forward, combining high-level private sector alliances with an ambitious official bid to host the prestigious Slow Food International Expo.

In a recent series of strategic engagements, the DOT met with the country’s primary tourism powerhouses, including the Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP), the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Philippines Chapter, and the Philippine IATA Agents Travel Association (PIATA). The discussions focused on shared priorities, market opportunities, and reinforcing the collaborative framework required to keep the Philippines competitive in a rapidly evolving global market.

“Tourism associations serve as our direct link to markets, operators, and frontline stakeholders,” the DOT stated. “Their real-world insights are vital to shaping responsive policies, driving coordinated growth, and elevating the overall visitor experience.”

Parallel to strengthening market ties, the DOT is aggressively expanding its sustainable and culinary tourism portfolio. Reaffirming its alliance with the Slow Food community of Negros and local government officials, the DOT confirmed it will formally pursue the Philippines’ bid to host the upcoming Slow Food International Expo, eye-marking Negros Occidental as the premier host destination.

The partnership with Slow Food International has already established the Philippines as a rising star for gastronomy and eco-conscious travel in the Asia-Pacific. Hosting the global expo represents a strategic leap to:

  • Elevate Philippine gastronomy on the world stage.

  • Strengthen local farm-to-table ecosystems, directly benefiting rural communities and farmers.

  • Showcase the rich biodiversity and cultural heritage of Filipino culinary traditions.

Through unified industry collaboration and pioneering sustainable food tourism initiatives, the DOT remains committed to securing the Philippines’ position as a premier, deeply authentic global destination.
