The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of the Philippines, serving as Chair of the 17th ASEAN Energy Regulators Network (AERN), successfully convened the 17th AERN Meeting on 03 June 2026 through a virtual platform, bringing together energy regulators from ASEAN Member States to discuss key regional energy priorities and strengthen regulatory cooperation across the region.
ERC officials, alongside representatives from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), participated in the meeting from the ERC Main Office in Pasig City.
The meeting was led by ERC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan, together with Commissioners Floresinda G. Baldo-Digal, Marko Romeo L. Fuentes, Amante A. Liberato, and Paris G. Real. Discussions focused on strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts aimed at supporting ASEAN’s evolving energy landscape.
Among the key agenda items were updates from the AERN Working Groups, developments related to the ASEAN Power Grid, and proposed work programs that will guide the Network’s activities during the Philippines’ chairmanship. Participants also exchanged insights on initiatives designed to enhance regulatory collaboration, facilitate knowledge sharing, and support the continued advancement of regional energy integration.
The meeting underscored the critical role of cooperation among ASEAN energy regulators in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities in the energy sector. As ASEAN pursues a more integrated and sustainable energy future, regulators highlighted the importance of coordinated policies, strengthened institutional partnerships, and responsive regulatory frameworks.
“As Chair of the 17th AERN, the ERC remains committed to promoting stronger regional partnerships and advancing initiatives that support a secure, resilient, interconnected, and sustainable energy future for ASEAN,” the Commission stated.
Through its leadership of the AERN, the ERC continues to champion regulatory excellence, foster meaningful dialogue among member states, and contribute to the realization of ASEAN’s long-term energy goals.
