The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the De La Salle University (DLSU) Carlos L. Tiu School of Economics on June 23 in Quezon City.
The agreement formalizes DLSU as a partner higher education institution (HEI) under the PCC Academic Hubs Project for FY 2026-2027.
This initiative aims to strengthen the promotion of competition economics and policy in HEIs through structured academic engagement and collaboration among partner HEIs’ students, faculty, and researchers.
The MOA was signed by PCC Executive Director Kenneth Tanate and DLSU Carlos L. Tiu School of Economics Dean Arlene Inocencio. The partnership establishes a framework for institutional collaboration, combining the regulatory enforcement, advocacy, and research expertise of the Commission with the academic excellence of the university.
“With a formalized partnership with DLSU, we are creating more avenues for the next generation of economists and policymakers to engage in meaningful and results-oriented discourse on how fair competition shapes markets,” Tanate said.
Under the agreement, DLSU will integrate competition economics, law, and policy concepts into relevant course syllabi, subject outlines, or instructional materials, with a commitment to exploring their integration into regular academic offerings beyond the pilot teaching phase (FY 2026-2027).
The university will also encourage its students, faculty, and researchers to engage in competition-related academic activities and research. It will likewise contribute to and utilize the upcoming Competition Policy Network Databank, a centralized repository for competition-related datasets, research outputs, and research methodologies.
The PCC will provide substantive technical inputs and guidance, and deploy PCC officers, technical staff, or resource persons for guest lectures, seminars, or workshops hosted by the university.
The Commission will likewise facilitate opportunities for DLSU’s academic community to participate in PCC-supported research initiatives, fellowships, as well as access knowledge resources or databases established under the project.
DLSU serves as the inaugural partner HEI under the PCC Academic Hubs Project. The Commission plans to expand the project’s rollout with upcoming institutional partnerships with Mariano Marcos State University, the University of the Philippines Los Baños, and the University of the Philippines Diliman.
These partnerships form part of the PCC’s broader efforts to expand academic participation in policy research, development, and advocacy in support of a competitive Philippine economy.
