Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan of the Department of Economic Planning and Development (DEPDev) met with United Kingdom Ambassador to the Philippines Sarah Hulton on Thursday to advance bilateral cooperation aligned with the Philippines’ core economic and development priorities.
The high-level meeting focused on accelerating key areas of the Philippines’ development agenda, with particular emphasis on expanding the country’s robust infrastructure pipeline and identifying new avenues for collaboration within the power and energy sector.
Recognizing the rapid growth of the digital economy, Secretary Balisacan and Ambassador Hulton also discussed the Philippines’ emerging artificial intelligence (AI) governance framework.
The dialogue highlighted opportunities for the UK to support the country in establishing safe, innovative, and effective AI policies through shared technical expertise.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the UK-Philippines development partnership. They emphasized that sustained collaboration—driven by strategic investments, technological innovation, and bilateral knowledge exchange—remains vital to achieving sustainable, resilient, and inclusive economic growth for the Philippines.
