The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) reported that applications for Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID) and Seafarer’s Record Book (SRB) reached all-time high in the first half of the year, indicating a strengthening of the Philippine maritime workforce.
For the first half of the year, MARINA reported that applications for both SID and SRB reached a total of 162,770, reflecting a 61.49 percent increase compared to 100,791 applications filed in the same period in 2025. This is the highest in the past five years.
Based on the MARINA data, the latest figure surpassed the 89,058 applications in 2024; the 86,814 in 2023; and the 61,097 in 2022.
The highest number of applications were filed in March with 30,943, followed by Hunyo (28,769), February (27,114), May (26,461), April (24,925), and January (24,558).
Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan said MARINA continues to strengthen measures for efficient processing of SID and SRB applications.
“We encourage our seafarers to continue scheduling their appointments using the eGovPH App via MARINA’s Online Appointment System or OAS,” Malaluan said.
She cited plenty of available appointment slots in different MARINA offices nationwide. ”
At present, there are more than 13,000 appointment slots available for SID and SRB in different MARINA offices nationwide for the months of August and September.
The latest Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) said that the Philippines continued to be the number one supplier of seafarers globally, estimated at 1.6 million.
