The Philippines officially opened its doors to the WorldSkills Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Manila 2025 on Monday, welcoming delegates from across the region to the largest skills competition in the event’s history. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivered a keynote address at the opening ceremony, held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City, emphasizing regional cooperation and Filipino hospitality.
In his speech, President Marcos expressed immense pride in hosting the event, which gathers 259 skilled youths from ASEAN member countries to compete in 32 skill areas. “It is with great pride and joy that I welcome you all here to Manila,” the President stated. “You are home.”
The President encouraged Filipinos to extend their well-known warmth and hospitality to the participants, recalling the nation’s successful hosting of the same competition nearly three decades ago in 1996. He also gave a special welcome to Timor-Leste, which is participating in the competition for the first time.
President Marcos concluded by inviting all delegates to explore the Philippines beyond the competition halls. “Have a taste of our food, discover the richness of our culture, and feel the warmth of the Filipino people,” he said, encouraging them to experience the country’s beauty and hospitality.
The biennial competition, now in its 14th year, will run from August 25 to 30, 2025, and is considered the premier showcase of professional and technical skills in the ASEAN region.
WorldSkills ASEAN is the largest skills competition in the Southeast Asian region, bringing together talented youth to compete in various technical and vocational fields. The event promotes skills development, knowledge exchange, and regional cooperation, highlighting the importance of a skilled workforce for economic growth and innovation.
