Philippines and Chile are supporting each other’s respective pursuit to accede to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
Trade and Industry Undersecretary Allan B. Gepty said that both sides expressed determination to finalize their bilateral trade deal -Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) – at the soonest possible time and to forge stronger regional collaboration.
Undersecretary Gepty met with Chilean Vice Minister of Trade Claudia Sanhueza on the sidelines of the APEC Leaders Week on October 29, 2025 in Gyeongju, South Korea.
The Philippines is pushing for its accession to the (CPTPP), while Chile is seeking RCEP membership where Philippines is already a member.
During the meeting, the Philippines and Chile reaffirmed commitment to enhance trade and economic cooperation through ongoing FTA talks, among others. Both parties underscored the importance of enhancing trade linkages between Asia and Latin America through the advancement of the PH-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations. Both sides committed to finalize the trade deal as soon as possible.
The DTI said that with total trade between the two economies surging by 137 percent, reaching USD334.13 million in 2024. Chile is now the Philippines’ 37th overall trading partner.
