Cargo Facts Asia 2026 convenes in Shanghai to chart the future of Asia-Pacific air logistics

The global air cargo community has descended upon the W Shanghai this week for Cargo Facts Asia 2026. The landmark event runs March 23–25. It serves as the main forum for industry leaders and market stakeholders to navigate the complex dynamics and rapid freight growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

As trade patterns evolve and e-commerce demand surges, this year’s conference highlights a significant pivot in fleet compositions and the emergence of new players across the continent.

Data released by Cargo Facts research underscores China’s role as the primary engine for widebody freighter growth. The region currently boasts 61 Boeing 777 Freighters in active service across six carriers.

  • Market Leaders: China Cargo Airlines and China Southern Cargo lead the pack with 19 aircraft each.

  • The Airbus Factor: The A330-200P2F (Passenger-to-Freighter) conversion is gaining massive traction, with 37 aircraft now operational in China.

  • New Entrants: Air China Cargo has solidified its position as the largest A330-200P2F operator, while Hong Kong Air Cargo and JD Airlines have integrated the type to meet the relentless demand of regional e-commerce.

While China focuses on long-haul widebodies, Southeast Asia is witnessing a surge in narrowbody startups and regional expansion:

  • Malaysia: Sin-Kung Airways successfully completed its first proving flights this month using a Boeing 737-400SF, signaling an imminent entry into commercial service.

  • Indonesia: Aero Nusantara Cargo recently secured its AOC and began operations with a 737-300F, joining a competitive field of eight other Indonesian carriers utilizing 737 freighter platforms.  “The regional landscape is bifurcating,” says the latest Cargo Facts report. “We are seeing a dual-track growth strategy where China scales massive international capacity while Southeast Asia builds out the nimble, narrowbody networks essential for regional connectivity.”
