In a significant move to bolster maritime security and operational capabilities, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) -Legazpi has formally turned over a donation of 1,783 liters of forfeited diesel fuel to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Bicol on June 16, 2026.
The donated fuel stems from unmarked diesel that was apprehended by a composite team from the BOC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue. According to Section 1141 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), goods that are subject to forfeiture may be disposed of through donation to another government agency after receiving approval from the Secretary of Finance. Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno secured the necessary approval from Finance, where the latter interposed no objection to the donation, considering that the forfeited goods may be used for their intended purpose.
“As a deputized agency of the Bureau of Customs, the Coast Guard District Bicol serves as a key partner in enforcing customs regulations and preventing illicit maritime activities such as smuggling and human trafficking,” said Collector Guillermo Pedro Francia IV during the turnover ceremony. “The fuel allocation will support the Philippine Coast Guard District Bicol in intensifying seaborne patrols, disaster response, and maritime law enforcement operations across the Bicol Region.”
The Philippine Coast Guard welcomed the donation, noting its direct impact on their mission. “This donation will help sustain our patrols, inspections and response operations,” the PCG stated. “By strengthening our mobility, we can further reinforce our collaborative efforts in securing the country’s maritime trade routes, deterring unlawful activities and promoting a safer, more efficient port environment that supports economic growth.”
Guided by the BOC’s Integrity, Accountability, and Modernization (IAM) Movement and aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen border security, combat smuggling, and enhance inter-agency collaboration, the agency remains steadfast in ensuring that forfeited goods are utilized in ways that advance public service and national security.
