The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) today assured Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families that government-led repatriation efforts remain active and unyielding, despite renewed tensions across the Middle East.
As of July 2026, the DMW reported that a total of 10,580 migrant workers, overseas Filipinos, and their dependents have been successfully and safely repatriated from conflict-affected areas. This figure includes the most recent cohort of 50 repatriates from Kuwait, who arrived safely in the Philippines this week.
While the volume of returnees has slowed compared to the peak months of the second quarter, DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay emphasized that the government’s mission to bring Filipinos out of harm’s way is far from over.
“We still have ongoing repatriation, but it’s unlike the periods of April and May. The number is declining, but we still continue with our repatriation efforts,” Undersecretary Bay stated during a press briefing at the DMW Central Office.
To ensure the safety of Filipinos still in the region, the DMW is executing a coordinated strategy:
-
Continuous Monitoring: The DMW is closely tracking geopolitical developments in the Middle East around the clock.
-
On-the-Ground Coordination: The department is working hand-in-hand with Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
-
Rapid Response: Operations remain active to immediately address repatriation requests, medical emergencies, and other urgent welfare concerns.
The DMW strongly urges all Filipinos currently residing or working in affected areas to prioritize their safety and remain vigilant. Undersecretary Bay issued the following crucial reminders:
-
Shelter in Place: Stay in safe, secure locations and restrict unnecessary movement.
-
Adhere to Local Laws: Strictly follow all safety rules, curfews, and advisories issued by host governments.
-
Verify Sources: Rely exclusively on official updates and verified information from Philippine Embassies, Migrant Workers Offices, and authorized government channels to avoid misinformation.
The Philippine government stands ready to deploy additional resources as needed to ensure no Filipino is left behind during this period of instability.
