Pres. Marcos Jr. inaugurates state-of-the-art passenger terminal and lightcraft station at Benoni Port

In a major move to accelerate regional tourism and stimulate local economies, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday officially inaugurated the newly modernized Benoni Port Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and the Benoni Port Lightcraft Landing Station.

The upgraded facilities mark a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure and positioning Camiguin Province as a premier, highly accessible travel destination.

During the inauguration ceremony, President Marcos Jr. emphasized that the transformation of Benoni Port extends far beyond aesthetics, serving as a critical lifeline for the island province.

“Benoni Port is the heartbeat of Camiguin’s connectivity,” President Marcos Jr. stated. “This modernized terminal and new lightcraft landing station represent a vital hub that seamlessly links people, goods, and services. By upgrading this gateway, we are not only offering a world-class welcome to our tourists, but we are also opening doors of opportunity for our local residents and small businesses.”

Key features of the upgraded Benoni Port:
  • Modern Passenger Terminal Building (PTB): Designed to handle increased passenger capacity, featuring state-of-the-art amenities, enhanced security screening, and comfortable waiting areas to ensure a seamless travel experience.

  • Benoni Port Lightcraft Landing Station: A dedicated facility built to accommodate smaller vessels and specialized watercraft, optimizing maritime traffic and offering faster transit options for travelers.

  • Boosted Economic Capacity: Enhanced cargo and passenger handling capabilities to better support local commerce, agricultural trade, and supply chains.

The island province of Camiguin, famous for its volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches, and rich cultural heritage, relies heavily on maritime entry points. The new infrastructure is expected to dramatically reduce waiting times, eliminate congestion during peak travel seasons, and encourage a higher volume of local and international visitor arrivals.

Local officials and business owners have welcomed the development, noting that the modern facilities will directly benefit the hospitality, retail, and transport sectors by fostering a more reliable and inviting environment for commerce.

The completion of the Benoni Port project reflects the national government’s strategic push to decentralize economic growth by empowering island provinces through robust infrastructure development.
