The Department of Tourism (DOT) is ramping up its inter-agency collaborations to build a more connected, competitive, and inclusive Philippine tourism industry.
Through a series of strategic partnerships with local government units and national agencies, the DOT aims to create seamless, meaningful, and frictionless travel experiences for both domestic and international visitors.
In recent high-level discussions, the DOT met with Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Tourism Committee Chairman Raul Marcelo, and Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II. The meetings focused on positioning Bohol and Subic as premier destinations through:
-
Targeted Product Development: Crafting specialized itineraries that cater to evolving global travel trends.
-
Enhanced Connectivity: Improving ease of entry and transport links to ensure hassle-free tourist arrivals.
-
Diverse Tourism Identities: Encouraging local destinations to champion their unique branding—whether catering to adventure seekers, families, couples, cultural travelers, or slow travelers.
Beyond infrastructure and marketing, the DOT’s collaborative framework addresses cultural engagement and socio-economic development across diverse sectors:
-
Engaging the Global Diaspora: Partnering with the CFO, the DOT is strengthening programs that connect overseas Filipinos with local tourism opportunities, cultural roots, and nation-building initiatives.
-
Tourism for Peace: Working alongside the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), the DOT is actively supporting enterprise- and community-based tourism in conflict-affected areas. This initiative aims to foster sustainable livelihoods, resilience, and lasting peace.
To ensure these nationwide initiatives are executed effectively, the DOT recently engaged with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The two agencies shared best practices on procurement, budgeting, and strategic planning. This alignment is designed to streamline operational efficiency, maximize resource allocation, and ensure the timely delivery of tourism projects across the archipelago.
Through these unified government efforts, the DOT remains committed to transforming the Philippines into a world-class travel hub where tourism growth benefits every community.
