PBBM allocates PhP278M in emergency funds to LGUs in earthquake-hit Mindanao

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate release of PhP278 million from the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund to support provinces and local government units (LGUs) reeling from the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.

The announcement came during the President’s personal inspection of the hardest-hit areas in Sarangani Province and General Santos City on Monday, where he met with local officials, first responders, and displaced families to assess the destruction firsthand.

“The national government remains fully committed to helping our communities recover and rebuild,” President Marcos assured earthquake victims. “Our agencies are working in close coordination with local authorities to ensure that aid, relief operations, and rehabilitation support are delivered without delay.”

The financial assistance package is strategically structured to address immediate relief needs and accelerate long-term rehabilitation efforts across the affected regions:

  • Sarangani Province & General Santos City: PhP50 million each

  • South Cotabato & Sultan Kudarat: PhP30 million each

  • Davao Occidental & Glan (Sarangani): PhP20 million each

  • Zamboanga City: PhP15 million

  • Other Affected LGUs: A combined allocation spanning 12 additional municipalities and cities, receiving between PhP3 million and PhP10 million each based on damage assessments.

In addition to the emergency socio-civic funds, the national government has mobilized the Local Government Support Fund through the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to fast-track the repair of vital public infrastructure:

  • General Santos City: PhP100 million has been released specifically for the repair and rehabilitation of the damaged City Hall.

  • Alabel & Glan (Sarangani): PhP50 million each has been allocated to restore damaged government buildings and a critical local hospital.

The powerful June 8 earthquake caused widespread damage to roads, schools, hospitals, public facilities, and private homes across Mindanao. The released funds will immediately go toward sustaining ongoing relief operations, restoring basic utilities, and beginning the reconstruction of flattened communities.
